Wagh’s mortal remains to arrive in Goa on Sunday

Former Speaker and Former BJP MLA Vishnu Wagh’s mortal remains will be brought back to Goa on Sunday morning. It will be kept at the Wagh’s house in Dhavli (Ponda) for the public to pay its respect. The remains will then be cremated with state honors in the afternoon at Ponda municipal crematorium.

The information was provided by Wagh’s wife Aruna on Friday evening. It may be recalled that Vishnu Wagh passed away in Johannesburg, South Africa last Friday (February 8).

In a press release, Aruna has claimed that ailing Vishnu was taken on a 10-day tour to South Africa as it was his’ wish to visit the country, where Mahatma Gandhi got inspiration to fight for India’s independence. She also claimed that Wagh was very happy to be in South Africa.

Former St Andre MLA had been severely ill for the last two and a half years. Explaining about the delay in informing about the passing of Wagh, Aruna said that she was not in her senses (mental trauma) for four days after his passing. She was in the company of her sister and Wagh’s caretaker Shiv Raj Sanketi.

“As we were shaken, till four days after the death of Vishnu Wagh we could not take any decision,” she added.

“We have kept his mortal remains in a morgue. We visited Indian Embassy on Tuesday and started the procedure to take the body back 

to Goa”, she added.

Milind extends support to bring 

back remains of Wagh

VASCO: Urban Development Minister Milind Naik, who also heads the NRI Commission in Goa, has extended full support from the department to bring back the remains of former BJP MLA late Vishnu Wagh from South Africa to Goa.   

The commissioner of NRI Affairs, while speaking to media, said it was a great loss to Goa that a multifaceted personality like Wagh was no more.   

“I am the Commissioner of NRI Affairs department and I have already spoken to my OSD and directed him to provide whatever assistance required to bring back his remains from South Africa.”   

“I ensure that our department will give 100 percent assistance and we have already began our movement. I have directed the department to see whatever that is required to ensure a smooth process and go ahead with and start any documentation that may be required or complete any formalities that may require to bring back the remains of Wagh who is my friend, colleague and like a family member,” said Naik.   

“I have known Wagh for 30 years and we were studying together and have been benchmates. I am at loss of words to describe him as a person and I have never seen anyone more talented then him. We have lost an artist, writer, actor, poet and a great human today “ added Naik.   

The remains of Wagh, who died in Johannesburg in South Africa on February 8, will be arriving in Goa early Sunday morning.
