147 jobs at stake; it’s a mad rush at S Goa Collectorate

With 147 posts up for grabs, thousands of job seekers turned up at the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative complex on Monday to submit application forms. The total number of applications received by the South Goa District Collector as on Friday last was 19,000. And, the figure is expected to cross the 20,000 figure mark, with an official saying the figure might come close to 25,000 applications.     

Given that Monday was the last date for submission of application forms, job seekers made a beeline to the complex since early morning to avoid disappointment. Officials in the know say that around 3000-4000 youth, both males and females, stood in a serpentine queue to submit the applications. And, the process continued till 5 pm and beyond as youngsters continued to pour in the complex with the hope of getting the prized job.   

Inquiries by The Goan have revealed that not all the job seekers are unemployed, with many of them either working in the private sector and in other government departments. Most of them are hoping against hope to get the
