A green initiative for clean environment, the Messiah Multipuroise Co-operative Society Ltd of Curchorem on Sunday launched e-rickshaw services in Curchorem and Quepem, the first of its kind in Goa.
Speaking to The Goan, Chairman of the co-operative society James Fernandes said that, the environment is paying a heavy toll as a result from pollution and that, may be in the next 5 years or so, Goa also would be facing air quality problem like other states in India, therefore, it was high time to go for technology, and e-Ricksaw was one concept that can take care of public transportation which is also cheap.
This e-rickshaw comes in 2 models: on-road cost of Mayuri Delux is Rs 1.55 lakh whereas the superior model Mayuri PRO costs 1.7 lakh. This e-rickshaw can cover a distance of 70-80 kms and takes around 7 hrs for a full charge. It comes with in-built charger and all one has to do is just connect
to 5 amp normal electrical socket.
Fernandes said that the Goa govt has approved the model and clearance obtained from RTO too and normal 4-wheeler driving license is sufficient to drive this rickshaw. No road tax is levied on this vehicle and that it is noise and pollution free and can comfortably carry four passengers. The first e-rickshaw will be on road by next week and a concept of on-call service is in the pipeline.
More than 100 people have shown interest in just 2 days in this new concept although it is new in Goa. Some among them are present rickshaw & motorcycle pilots. MMC Society will also give loan to the members of the society to procure the e-rickshaw.
He further said that during the last assembly election he came across many problems faced by the people among them was unemployment and introduction of e-rickshaw will promote self-employment for youth and that they should not have any oppose from other rickshaw owners as anyone can avail this vehicle and that they are not into competition with anyone but are introducing an environment friendly and pollution free transport for the benefit of public and environment. Mr. Fernandes said that Customer satisfaction is important and being Green environment friendly concept people will wholeheartedly accept it.
MMC Society is the Sole distributors for the e-rickshaw who will also take care of all registration formalities with RTO and although it is maintenance free vehicle the society will extend their assistance to its purchasers. MMC Society is involved in Banking, e-Rickshaw, Agriculture Machinary (Hire & purchase) and Procurement of Cashew nuts, coconuts, betel nuts. The salient feature of all is that the farmers can sell their betel nuts in raw form and the society will have its own machinery take care of peeling & cleaning.
