Deputy Speaker and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo on Thursday said Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar would have to change his way of thinking if he was serious to bring about change in education system in government schools.

“Reforms in education and change in thinking is necessary to introduce quality education in government schools. Change in thinking…first of the government…of the chief minister, who is the education minister…He will have to think positively to feel our children on par with others…,” Lobo said.

The deputy speaker was speaking after inaugurating the renovated government primary school at Naika-vaddo in Calangute.

The renovation of the school was undertaken by Goa State Infrstructure Development Corporation Ltd at a cost of

Rs 40 lakh.

Continuing, Lobo said education was the key for the development of young children and stressed the need to revive all government primary schools across the State.

“If government spends Rs 40 lakh to renovate such schools, then the government should be committed to provide quality education in these schools. For that, the government will have to teach what is being taught in private schools. Only then will parents decide to send their children to government schools,” he said.

The belligerent coastal MLA further said there was no scope of playing politics in education.

“We cannot play politics in education. Today, politics that is being played in the name of education has to be stopped. We need to teach Konkani and Marathi, but we also need to adopt new techniques to disseminate education in government schools,” he said.

Lobo urged the deputy director of education, who was present in the hall, to bring about necessary changes in the education sector.

“I will speak in the assembly but you will have to initiate the move and issue appropriate directions to officials and teachers,” he said.

He promised the people that he will work to revive the government primary schools in the near future.

It may be recalled the Calangute MLA had similarly critiqued his government

for spending money to build infrastructure for government primary schools which had

no takers.

“The expenditure incurred to improve infra of government primary schools is waste of money. There are no students in those schools. I think we are making a mistake…,” Lobo had said while addressing the parents and teachers at the annual prize distribution function of Janata High School in Mapusa recently.

He had then also stressed on developing anganwadis and village libraries across the State.
