Saurashtra U-19s later order made big runs to help the visitors declare at 517/9 in 166.2 overs while Goa’s disastrous reply at 7/2 at draw of stumps on Day 2, put the home side in a deep hole in the in the Cooch Behar Trophy U-19 (2018-19) Elite Group C match against hosts Goa at GCA Academy Ground, Porvorim on Tuesday.

Resuming at their overnight total of 283/5, Saurastra lost overnight batsman Prasham Radev early for 6, with only a run added to his score and the team adding a further eight runs. His overnight partner, Jay Gohil lasted a while longer to make 69 (149b, 11x4).

From here on, the home team had to toil hard with the tail wagging along merrily. P Rana and Yuvrajsinh Shinol put on a massive 178-run stand for the eighth wicket. The frustrating partnership eventually ended when Rana fell a run shy of a deserving hundred off pacer Ruthvik Naik. Rana made 99 from 188 deliveries with

10 boundaries.

His big century stand partner, Shinol succumbed 13 runs later, also missing out on a three-figure score. He ran aground on 93 after playing out 214 balls and smacking the ropes on eight occasions. The visitors declared their first innings at 517/9. For Goa, Ruthvik Naik snapped up three wickets.

In reply, Goa suffered a double blow, losing two batsmen for no runs midway through their fourth over with Dev Dand doing the damage. Opener Shashank Vernekar on 2 and captain Alam on 1 weathered the storm to see the home team through to stumps without further loss at a precarious 7/2 after

11 overs.
