The Congress has raised apprehension that the government may prematurely dissolve the State legislative Assembly after the three-day Budget session beginning January 29.

Speaking to media after the Congress Legislative Party meeting, Leader of the Opposition Babu Kavlekar said “the Congress party had clear indications that the ruling dispensation could prematurely dissolve the House after the Budget session”.

The Opposition leader also said the CLP had resolved to demand an increase in the number of days of the Assembly session. “Last year there were only 16 days of business. For a healthy  democracy at least 21 days of business are required,” Kavlekar said.

Kavlekar also said the Congress would seek eight more days for analysing the  draft tourism policy before it is finalised. There are many points which  were raised by stakeholders, but these were not incorporated in the policy,  Kavlekar said.

Alleging that the BJP is playing politics on the mining issue and Prime Minister’s assurance of a legal solution to the party workers was just an “eyewash” before the Lok Sabha election, the Opposition leader said the Congress will solve mining issue within six months if voted to power.

“Why did the BJP government not solve mining issue last year when they had all machinery at their disposal”, Kavlekar asked.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar who also addressed the media said all three members of Parliament including central minister Shripad Naik had failed to raise the mining issue at the Centre. They even failed to get an appointment with the Prime Minister on the issue, he charged. Why did the PM not make any reference to the Special Status in his speech? asked Chodankar.

Chodankar also said that for a healthy democracy debate on public-related issues was a must. He also said the issue of EVM being hacked was serious and dangerous.

Congress MLA from Cuncolim Clafacio Dias said Goa Forward Party leader Yuri Alemao is taking credit for electrical repair work that has been done in Cuncolim.
