In a boost to the library movement in the State, the Goa government will be funding panchayats and non-governmental organizations to staff and manage existing libraries across Goa.

The scheme notified recently entitles ‘A’ Class libraries -- those that are housed in a premises of 350 square-meters and possess a minimum of 25,000 books, 30 magazines and 15 newspapers -- to employ a senior librarian, junior librarian and an attendant. Up to Rs 4.29 lakh will be provided to such libraries to bear the staff cost at the rate of Rs 14,000 per month for senior librarian, Rs 12,000 for junior librarian and Rs 9,000 to the attendant.
