MARGAO: Will Prime Minister Narendra Modi speak his mind on the mining issue facing the people of Goa when he interacts with BJP workers from South Goa via video conferencing at the Multipurpose ground, Borda on Sunday noon?
South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar on Wednesday told the media that the Prime Minister will be directly interacting with 4500 booth level workers of the BJP on January 20 noon for an hour between 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm. “We expect around 4500 party booth level workers to attend the interaction program with the Prime Minister. This is perhaps the first time that a Prime Minister is directly interacting with the party booth level workers on various issues, concerning the party," Sawaikar told the media.
On the mining issue, the South Goa MP said the central government is seized with the issue and exuded confidence that the centre will enact a law in the ensuing session of Parliament, which would pave way for the resumption of mining operations in Goa. “Recently, the party leaders and representatives of the mining dependents met BJP president Amit Shah and briefed him on the issue. The centre is aware of the entire issue which has banned mining operations following the orders of the Supreme Court. We are all working for a solution within the legal framework since the operations were stopped by the Supreme Court order,” he added.
The South Goa MP exuded confidence that people of Goa will repose their faith in the Party and help it to retain both the Lok Sabha seats.
On special status, Sawaikar said the BJP is committed on special status for Goa, but said that certain constitutional issues have come in the way. “People of Goa have been asking for special status for quite some time. We should be able to do it after the Constitutional issues are resolved’, he said.
He pointed out that people of the country have seen the working of the NDA government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the last four years. “Today, India ranks around 100 on ease of doing business. The world has recognized India on ease of doing business since our ranking has come down from 190 position to 100. Foreign direct investment has come into the country following this achievement”, he added.
The South Goa MP said that passage of the Bill in both houses of Parliament to provide job reservations for the economically backward sections of the high caste will fulfil the aspirations of the youth. “When the elections come, the BJP under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will return back as the Prime Minster once again’, he asserted.
Highlighting the developmental projects taken up in Goa, Sawaikar said the centre has sanctioned thousands of crores to tone up the state infrastructure, including highways and bridges. “Nowhere in the history of Goa did we come across sanction of funds by the centre for the state’s development”, he said.
