Coming down heavily on the Congress for questioning him on his promise to install Dr Jack Sequeira’s statue in Assembly, TCP minister Vijai Sardesai urged the Congress leaders to first get their fact right on Opinion Poll and then talk.

“Politics on statues has been going on for years. Some won elections using Dr Sequeira’s name, some became ministers, ran governments but it took 50 years for them to recognise Opinion Poll,” Sardesai pointed out while taking a dig at the Congress.

“A tweet by Cong president states the year of the Opinion Poll as 1966. The president himself is not aware of the year and they are taunting us that Sardesai failed on promise to install statue in Assembly,” Sardesai thundered and assured that Goa Forward will see to it that Dr Sequeira’s statue is installed in the Assembly.

“We will achieve whatever we have promised,” he informed while stating that it is only a matter of time. “In 1966, the Congress passed the Goa Opinion Poll bill. But it is the people who saved Goa not Cong and in the future too people would save Goa,” Sardesai said, while adding that a national party cannot save Goa.

“Only a regional party like Goa Forward can save Goa as it understands local issues,” he stated. He further said that the current Congress president is a product of MGP party which wanted merger. He was made president as there is bankruptcy of leadership in Congress.

“So how will he understand Opinion Poll history. In Congress there is a pro-merger hangover,”

“If the poll had not happened what would have been our identity? Those who are talking about Maharashtrawadi, I don’t think these people would have got elected as panchas,” Sardesai said.

“Those who oppose Dr Jack Sequeira should be thrown out of politics. Otherwise we will become political ‘hingdas’,” he stated.
