MARGAO

Bengaluru FC Reserves rode on midfielder Altamash Sayed’s brace to drub FC Goa developmental side 4-1 in their Hero Second Division I-League at Nagoa Sports Complex, on Wednesday. There was no score at lemon break.

It was a peformance that FC Goa colts would like to forget in a hurry. A clueless defence that at times were at sixes and sevens and a midfield that was porous and error-prone leaving midfielder Kapil Hoble and Kingslee Fernandes with much to do. But what was annoying and most disappointing for home fans, was their lethargic performance - yawning gaps in the midfield and lack of urgency overall.Very rarely did they manage to put the visitors defence under pressure. The vistiors sounded the warning midway in the opening session when striker Agustine Rodrigues put a through pass to midfielder Altamash Sayed whose snap-shot was well parried away by the FC Goa goalkeeper Shubham Das.

Post resumption, it was a disciplined performance by the Bengaluru Reserves that saw them breach the FC Goa defence and break the deadlock in the 51st minute when striker Naorem Roshan Singh picked up the ball from Advait Shinde via Leon Agustine and Naorem Roshan Singh turned it and punted the ball to the far corner of the net.

Stung by the reverse, FC Goa went all out and the equaliser came in the 65th minute when captain Kingslee Fernandes essayed a fine cross to susbstitute striker Aaren Silva, who confidenly beat the rival goalkeeper. Bengaluru went into an attacking mode and in the 69th minute, Altamash Sayed’s firece free-kick gave no chance to the rival goalkeeper to put his team in 2-1 lead.

In the 73rd minute, star of the day Altamash Sayed unleashed a blistering shot to record his brace before Leon Agustine fired the last nail into rival cofffin in the 84th minute when he nodded home off a well-taken flag-kick by Biswa KR Darjee.
