3 serious as boiler explodes at Tuem factory

Three workers were seriously injured, while six others escaped unhurt after a boiler exploded at a cement block manufacturing factory at the Tuem Industrial Estate on Saturday afternoon.  

According to reports, the incident occurred when the workers were engaged in the factory. The impact of the explosion was such that a large pipe connected to the boiler got blown out of the factory and was flung to some distance at a nearby forested area, damaging two vehicles and the property of another unit in the process.  

The cabin of a truck and a car, which were stationed in the factory premises, were destroyed by the pipe which was blown out of the factory.  

The sound of the explosion was even heard by people residing kilometres away from the site.  

Three workers, identified as Akhil Bhanudas Naik, Ajeet and Rehman Ali, were seriously injured in the explosion and were rushed to Goa Medical College hospital for treatment, while six other workers escaped unhurt.  

Tuem Sarpanch Nilesh Kandolkar and Panch Anand Salgaonkar rushed to the site on hearing the news and alerted the fire brigade and police.  

A Pernem police team led by PI Sandesh Chodankar went to the site to investigate the incident. PI Chodankar informed that three critically injured persons are being
