Mallakhamb nationals begin at Ponda

National Mallakhamb Championship, organised by Goa Mallakhamb Association (GMA) in association with Mallakhamb Federation of India (MFI), commenced at Dayanand Bandodkar Sports Complex, Bandora-Ponda on Saturday. PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar inaugurated the event. 

The championship will conclude on January 14. Around 19 States and two union territories will participate in the championship. GMA president and Sanvordem MLA Deepak Pauskar, vice-president Ketan Bhatikar, President of MFI, Dr Ramesh Hindolia, Secretary of MFI, Narayan Kurade, ZP Chitra Phadate, panch members of Bandora, councillors of Ponda and other dignitaries were present on the 

occasion.   

Speaking during the inaururation function, Dhavalikar congratulated the players for taking part in the mallakhmab sports, which is a traditional sport of aerial gymnastics performed on a pole. “I feel very good that you are taking this culture ahead,” the minister said. Dr Ramesh Hindolia, Deepak Pauskar and Ketan Bhatikar also spoke on the occasion.   

Players from West Bengal, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Bihar, Pondichery, Uttar Pradesh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu will participate in 

the championship.
