The annual festival of Shree Ayyappa temple, Vasco will be celebrated from January 14-21 with the Vedic rituals. Various cultural programmes will be staged during these days. A colourful procession with the idol of Lord Ayyappa accompanied by the famous Panchavadyam, Thalappoli of ladies and girls, folk dance etc will be routed through Vasco city on Monday January 21 evening from 6pm.

The rituals prior to the festival will begin on Sunday January 13 evening with shuddhi by Dr Sreekant Nampoothiri and other priests. The festival poojas and rituals will start with Thrikodiyettu evening at 6.15pm on Monday, January 14. 

This will be followed by daily poojas and kalasabhishekam from 6am to 11am and deeparadhana, sreebhothabali and vilakkinnezhunnellippu evening from 6.30pm to 10.30pm from January 15 -20. The important days during this festival are Makaravilakku on January 14, Navagraha Prathishta day on January 16, Devi prathishta day on January 17 and Prathishta day on January 18. Utsava bali will be conducted on Sunday, January 20 from 9.30am and  Pallivetta Ezhunnellippu from Sreekanteswara temple, Gandhi Nagar from 10pm. Eight days festival rituals will be conclude on Sunday, January 21 evening with Aarattu at 5pm followed by Shobayatra, Kodiyirakkam and Aarattu Kalasam at 10.30pm. An important function of Parayidal (offering paddy to Lord Ayyappa by filling the Para by the devotees) will be conducted at the temple before the Kodiyirakkam function. 

Devotees who wish to offer Neyyabhishekam 

(Abhishekam with Ghee) during the festival day in the morning and Parayidal have been requested to book it in advance at the committee office in the temple, said the statement by the organising committee.

Maha Mrutyunjaya Homam that is performed once in every three months, will be held on Tuesday, January 15 morning at 9.30am. Thaippooyyam (special abhishekam and poojas for Lord Karthikeya) will be conducted on Monday January 21, 9am. Advance booking for these poojas has already commenced.

Every day Annadanam will be held from January 13-21. Various cultural programmes will also be staged daily evening from 7.30pm at the temple auditorium. A Bharatnatyam performance will be staged by Sri Kalaradhana Bharathnatya Dance Institution, Bangalore on Sunday, January 13. On Monday, January 14 music concert ‘Naadamadhuri’ will be staged by Smt Sasikala Sankaranarayanan and group followed by dance recital ‘nritya sandya’ by Shiju and Sreekala Nambiar Group on January 15, cultural programme by Impana Kulkarni and group on January 16, entertainment programme by Ayyappa devotees on January 17, cultural programme ‘Kaliyil Alpam Karyam’ by Pranavam Entertainers on January 18, ‘Sangeeta Nritha Mamangam’ by Lesha Mohandas and Group on January 19 and dance drama ‘Shabareenaadhan’ by Smt Sasikala Sankaranarayanan and group on January 20. 

From January 14-20, there will be daily Keli, Chendamelam, Thayambaka, Panchavadyam performances by Kottambally Raja Padmanabha Marar and group. On January 21 along with shobayatra, variety of folk dances will be presented by Kulappada Chandran from Kerala.
