Milagres Sports Club managed to squeeze past St Anthony’s Sports Club Marna by 2-1 margin to collect full points in the GFA’s 2nd Division League, played at Duler grounds, here on Thursday.

Milagres went into the breather with a two-goal cushion.

It was in the 16th minute, Milagres colts’ Jolan Fernandes, collecting a ball in the midfield, sent an intelligent pass to a well positioned Lesten Martins but the latter failed to beat the rival keeper from close. At the other end, Marna too had a chance to take the lead when Claudio Rodrigues found Vipul Pednekar inside the penalty box, but the latter’s strike went out.

After play was restricted to midfield, finally in the 41st and 43rd minutes, Milagres scored two quick goals. Jolan sent a neat floater inside the 18-yard box, where a miscommunication between the rival keeper and defender saw the ball roll to Albino, who coolly tapped the ball into the goal, 1-0.

It did not take long for Milagres colts to extend their lead where Jayesh Kadam floated the ball to well positioned Schubert Colaco who connected the ball with a power-packed right footer into the goal, 2-0.

On resumption of play Marna outfit brought tremendous pressure on the rival citadel. In the 54th minute finally Marna managed to pull a goal. Sangam sent a neat through pass to his teammate Vipul who placed the ball into the far corner of the goal, 2-1.

In the last quarter of the match Marna had two more chances to level terms but Milagres keeper Soma Korgaonkar came with two out of the blue saves to deny Sidhant Shirodkar from scoring in the 71st and 87th minute of play.
