The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday trapped a talathi attached to the Village Panchayat of Seraulim on the allegations that he was demanding a bribe to register a house under the 20-point programme in the name of the complainant.

Based on a complaint received from a person, whose identity was protected for the moment, the ACB team led by PI Francis Corte laid a trap wherein the talathi was asked to collect the money amounting to Rs 10,000 opposite the KTC bus stand on Friday evening. The ACB team which was lying in wait swooped on the talathi Naresh Komarpant when the complainant was allegedly handing over the amount.

PI Francis Corte told the media at the spot that the investigating agency had laid the trap after the complainant complained that the talathi was allegedly demanding Rs 6 lakh to register the house in the 20-point programme in the name of the complainant.

The team further pointed out that the complainant lodged his complaint after he could not bear the harassment meted out to him by the official.

While the ACB team was carrying out the panchanama at the spot, the talathi was found seating inside the car late Friday evening. Further investigations are in progress.
