Swimmer Xavier D’Souza has won Goa’s first medal at the 2nd edition of Khelo India Youth Games, underway at the Balewadi Sports Complex in Pune.

The Goan won a bronze in the 200 metres freestyle with a timing of 1.57.62secs in the boys U-21 category.    Karnataka’s Srihari Nataraj (1.53.22s) won the goald while Delhi’s Kushagra Rawat (1.53.50s) finished ahead of Xavier to take silver.

Meanwhile, Goa’s Suman Patil -- participating in the girls U-21 category -- missed out on a medal twice as she finished 4th in 200 metres freestyle with a timing of 2.25.37secs and also fell short of a podium position in 50 metres butterfly with a timing of 0.31.69 secs. The talented Goan swimmer will look to put behind the disappointment when she competes in other events at the Games.

In other results, Goa’s Sachi Gramsuphadyay finished 5th in 200m freestyle with a timing of 2.26.19secs, while she finished seventh in 800m freestyle with a timing of 11:15:69s. Another Goan swimmer, Kiran Narvekar secured eighth place in 800 metres freestyle with a timing of 11:19:87s.
