Rosary High School, Navelim thrashed St Xavier’s High School, Velim 5-0 to romp into the quarterfinals of 4th St Joseph Vaz memorial Under-17 inter school football tournament organised by Mount Mary’s High School, Chinchinim at Church ground, Chinchinim on Thursday. The highlight of the match was a brilliant hat-trick by Tanvir Bagalkot.

Rosary reduced the match against St Xavier’s High School to a no-contest as they scored at will and led 2-0 at half time. The scoreline would have been much bigger but for several missed chances by

Rosary.

Rosary did not have to wait long to celebrate as Julius Ferrao opened the floodgates in the very 7th minute.

Spurred by the lead, they virtually toyed the rivals’ weak defence and in the 20th minute, Tanvir Bagalkot doubled the lead. Post resumption, Tanvir struck twice, in the 35th and 38th minutes, to register his hat-trick. Noah Luis fired the fifth goal for Rosary in the 43rd minute.

In another pre-quarterfinal, St Rita’s High School, Maina came from behind to beat hosts Mount Mary’s High School, Chinchinim 4-2. St Rita’s were trailing 0-2 at half time.

Backed by the home crowd, Mount Mary’s dominated the game early and Shario Gomes broke the deadlock in the 8th minute. Eight minutes later, Shario scored the second with a clinical finish. Crossing over, St Rita’s were a dominant lot and Jovial Dias reduced the deficit.

After a couple of minutes, Jovial scored again through a free kick to put his team on equal terms. Stephen Fernandes struck for the lead and Myron Silva put the issue beyond doubt late in the match.
