Pointing out that the Goa government-appointed Tribal Advisory Council (TAC) consists mostly of the bureaucrats and is against the Constitutional mandate, the National Council for Scheduled Tribes has written to the chief minister to reconstitute the body with more tribal members if tribal legislators are not available in place of the babus.
“Tribal advisory committee should consist of three-fourths of tribal politicians and not officers. Goa’s TAC is not as per the Constitution. We have written to the chief minister to reconstitute the committee,” said National Council for Scheduled Tribes Chairperson Dr Nankumar Sahay informed.
A team of the NCST took stock of the education and development scenario in of ST community in Goa while on a a two-day visit in Goa. The National Council for Scheduled Tribes also found that the government of Goa has failed to solve most of the cases related to property rights of ST members in accordance with
Forest Rights Act.
