Marina English High School beat Perpetual Succour High School, Navelim 1-0 to enter the finals of the 5th Baptist Fernandes Memorial inter school football tournament, held in honour of the former Dempo and State footballer and SAG coach by Goa Soccer Centre for Boys.
In an exciting encounter at Panchayat ground, Chicalim, Marina scored the all important goal in the first half from a corner kick by Jodrich Abranches.
In the quarterfinals of Group A, Our Lady of Health School, Cuncolim beat Our Lady of Carmel, Curtorim and Marina English High School, Verna beat Kings High School 6-5 via the tiebreaker after the teams were locked 2-2 at full time. Perpetual School, Navelim beat Holy Rosary School, Nuvem 1-0 and St Joseph’s Calangute beat Regina Martyrum, Assolna 5-4 via the tiebreaker.
In the Group A semifinals, Marina English beat Our Lady of Health School, Cuncolim 5-4 via the tiebreaker after a 2-2 deadlock. In the second semifinal, Perpetual Succour School, Navelim beat St Joseph’s School Calangute 4-0.
