Following their recent three-day dharna in New Delhi, the mining dependents will hold a meeting at Sadashiv Waman Marathe hall at Pilye-Dharbandora on December 19, to decide their future course of action.

Convenor of Goa Mining People’s Front Puti Gaonkar told The Goan that some politicians are expected to join the meeting.

The GMPF had submitted a memorandum to PM Narendra Modi seeking his intervention in the mining issue.

The memorandum had stated: “I request your good self as leader of common people, who strives towards working for the betterment of masses, to please look into the matter and take necessary steps to ensure a sustainable livelihood to lakhs of people.”

Upset that none of BJP’s central leaders, apart from Union Ayush Minister and Goa’s BJP leader Shripad Naik, had turned up to support their cause, the mining dependents had decided to intensify their agitation in the State by showing black flags to union ministers participating at any events in Goa and to observe a Goa bandh.

Having failed to get any assurance from the State government, the GMPF has warned of intensifying its agitation in Goa.
