Parrikar gives all clear for 2009 permanent posts

Ailing Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar held a meeting with officials of the personnel department on Tuesday and took stock of the vacancies, promotions and retirement-related issues in various government departments sanctioning 2009 new permanent posts in 45 different departments and Corporations. The 69 harness cases and 270 contract recruitment proposals have also been approved.   

According to a senior official in the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the meeting was held at the chief minister’s private residence at Dona Paula and went on for over two hours. Parrikar, sources said, directed all heads of departments to start the recruitment process immediately.  

With Tuesday’s decision, the ban on recruitment for government vacancies was there earlier in 45 departments has been lifted.   

Presently, the total staff strength of these 45 departments is around 19,000 and with the addition of 2009 new staffers, the strength of those in government service will rise to 21,000.   

Goa Medical College and Health Department will benefit the most in terms of number of recruitments with both having sizeable vacancies under consideration.   

The chief minister who has been ailing for quite sometime, of late, has been holding a series of meetings with officials and bureaucrats. On Sunday he sprang a surprise going on site visits at the under-construction Mandovi bridge and Zuari bridge.   

The move came amid Opposition protests over what it termed as a collapse of administration with even a petition being filed in High Court seeking information on the health status of Parrikar.
