Goa’s inconsistent performances came to haunt them again as they put up a shambolic performance to crash to a seven-wicket against Andhra via the VJD method in a Rd X Group A & B encounter in the ongoing Senior Women’s One Day League played at JKC college ground, Guntur on Sunday.

Electing to bat first, the move backfired on Goa as they crumbled to 76 all out in 29.5 overs. They lost their wickets through the innings as seasoned campaigner, Sunanda Yetrekar who came in as low as no. 7 in the order made an unbeaten 24 (35b, 2x4) to top-score in the

debacle.

In the Andhra attack, it was K Jyothi who emerged as the chief destroyer by scalping three of the top five in the Goa batting half to have stand-out returns of 3/25 off her completed bowling quota.

Chasing a measly target, Andhra had to endure only early hiccups to be placed at 33/2 in 6.1 overs when rain interrupted play. Goa’s captain and international discard, Shikha Pandey snapped up the early sticks.

Upon resumption of play, Andhra cantered home with ease at 70.3 in 13.4 overs via VJD method losing only opener and top-scorer, C H Jhansi (36, 37b, 8x4) off Vanita Bhandari against the run of play. Shikha Pandey with 2/29 was the best bowler in the

Goa attack.

Speaking to The Goan after the game, Goa Women’s coach Anuradha Redkar said, “There is nothing really to tell. It was a very bad performance by our team. We had a batting failure and dropped catches too.”

Replying to a question as to why a seasoned batter like Sunanda came as low down as no. 7 to bat, Redkar vaguely replied that the all-rounder had a thumb injury in her last match (against Punjab on Wednesday). Goa who has played seven matches winning three, losing four. They will hope to recover well from this embarrassing defeat to end the league stage on a high when they take on Haryana on Tuesday.
