Goan shuttler Anura Prabhu Desai has been selected for Premier Badminton League (PBL) 2018-19. She will represent team Mumbai Rockets and is the first Goan to be picked in the cash-rich league.
Anura, who is the brand ambassador of Geno Pharmaceuticals, is ranked 105 in the current BWF women’s singles ranking, and is ranked third in India in singles. She won a bronze while representing Railways in the recently concluded All India Senior Ranking Badminton championship in Bengaluru.
The upcoming PBL season will run from December 22, 2018 to January 13, 2019. The 23-day event will see Delhi Dashers, Ahmedabad Smash Masters, Awadhe Warriors, Bengaluru Raptors, Mumbai Rockets, Hyderabad Hunters, Chennai Smashes, North Eastern Warriors and Pune 7 Aces slug it out for a prize purse of Rs 6 crore in
five cities.
The inaugural rounds will be held in Mumbai, followed by Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad and Bengaluru.
