Poetic Colours: A message of hope and triumph

The message of hope and triumph over one’s fears was reinforced at ‘Poetic Colours, a special event held to celebrate the talents of writer, poetess, and painter Frederika Menezes at the Museum of Goa in Pilerne on Sunday.
A number of poems and songs composed by Menezes were presented at the event, which also witnessed a discussion on how to make various facilities in the tourism sector in Goa more accessible to differently-abled people.
Beginning the event, writer and theatre-person Isabel Vaz presented a few poems written by Menezes.
The poems had an optimistic tone, and examined various aspects of life. Poems that were read included ‘The Portrait’ which gives a message of hope and triumph over fears; ‘Know Me’, which examines people’s perceptions about the poet and the reality and explores how while some people see her as a person who is alive only for the sake of being, others know that a rainbow of creativity hides in her heart.
The third poem titled ‘Life’s Creative Mischievous Plan’ talked of a journey through a storm and finding light at the end, while yet another poem examined the monotonous and mundane life of a housemaid.
Following this, singer-songwriter Natalie Matos presented a song written by Menezes, after which Menezes herself answered questions from the audience.
Upon being asked what was the source of her inspiration, Menezes replied that it was life itself.
Apart from writing, Menezes also engages in painting using her fingers on a tab.
“I dream a lot, push out everything else from my head, and go on painting!” she exclaimed elaborating on her creative process in the field.
"I want nothing but perfection,” Menezes further averred.
At the conclusion of the interaction, the writer revealed three of her greatest dreams– being known around the world for her writing, travelling the world and meeting different people, and becoming more independent.
