Chronicles of a revolt

Minister for power Nilesh Cabral released a book titled ‘Against the Tide 47 Men’’ authored by eminent writer Dr Sushila Fonseca at a function held in Panaji recently. The aforesaid book is based on the history of an aborted attempt of revolt by 47 natives of Goa to overthrow tyrannical Portuguese government during the year 1787.  The revolt is known as the Pinto revolt.

Cabral in his address said that, there are many episode in the history of Goa which need to be unearthed and to allot respectable place in the syllabus of  history in Goa. The children have to know the history of their own land. Dr Celsa Pinto, the guest of honour, informed that the makers of the revolt of 1787 were highly influenced with the idea of liberalism which emerged in Europe. 

Dr Harshwardhan Bhatkuley, while speaking about the book said that the martyars of Pinto revolt had strived to revolt against the Portuguese rule out of their love towards motherland and passion for freedom. He said there are many stories hidden under heap and therefore remain untold. The Pinto revolt of 1787 deserves more exposure and strong consideration.

Dr Sushila Fonseca the author of the book  gave insight of the book while Indira Fonseca welcomed the gathering. While Dr Eduard Fonseca proposed the vote of thanks.
