Saying that BJP’s decision to get party general secretary Satish Dhond back in Goa may be too late to bring the party organisation back on tracks, former minister Ramesh Tawadkar has reiterated his charge that certain party leaders have been responsible for destroying the party in the State.
He said that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had made a request to him to return back to the party fold, but the former BJP leader said he has politely told Parrikar there’s no reason to come back to the party when certain leaders are not ready to understand the sentiments of the workers.
Tawadkar further said that while he is firm in contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha election from South Goa, he will take his workers into confidence before taking the call on contesting the election from the banner of a political party.
“When I had recently called on Chief Minister to inquire about his health, Parrikar requested me to return to the party fold. But, I told Parrikar that no purpose would be served as long as certain leaders were controlling the party. Party workers would tell you that certain party leaders, operating from the offices, have destroyed the party. They singled me out as they felt that I am growing politically. Workers are aware how these leaders have treated me”, he added.
He told the media here on Friday that the BJP organization has suffered after the exit of Satish Dhond, while pointing fingers at certain party leaders for destroying the party organization. “After Dhond’s exit, the party has suffered badly. I think it is too late to bring the party back on the tracks in Goa”, Tawadkar said.
When asked whether he would contest the ensuing Lok Sabha poll on the Lotus symbol if offered the ticket by the BJP, Tawadkar said “though I have taken the decision to contest the coming polls, the decision to contest on which party banner will be decided by my workers’.
With the LS polls just few months away, Tawadkar disclosed plans to form committees of 200 workers in each of the South Goa Assembly segments to prepare for electoral battle.
