Govt Multipurpose HSS beat Baina HSS in the Inter Higher Secondary Schools cricket tournament organised by DSYA, at Fatorda ground on Thursday.
Baina HSS won the toss and elected to bat first, posting only 23 runs in 10 overs. They were undone by some fiery bowling as Dinesh Adam picked up five wickets, giving away just five runs. He was well supported by Kaushal Singh and Suraj Naik, who claimed two wickets each, while Pralav Kerkar picked one wicket for his side. In reply, Govt Multipurpose HSS knocked off the required runs in just three overs.
In an earlier match, a splendid unbeaten knock of 96 by Ayush Verlekar and his 128-run partnership with skipper Kaushal Singh (40) enabled GMHSS Borda to beat strong RMS HSS, Margao by 28 runs to reach the semifinals stage of the tournament.
Electing to bat first, the Borda team was in trouble at 16 for 2 but reached 157 for 3 in 20 overs. Disciplined bowling by the Borda bowlers kept the RMS batsmen on a tight leash despite a fighting knock of 61 by Omkar Bhandari and good support from Shaunak P (22) and Eshan Bagchi (18). The RMS team could manage to score only 129 for 7, handing Borda a 28-run win. Pralav Kerkar took two wickets while Dinesh and Kaushal picked one wicket each.
