A gaping hole at the base of a high mast lamp post at Char-Rasta in Canacona has posed a serious danger of collapsing on motorists and pedestrians in the area.
“The high mast has corroded to such an extent at its base that a gaping hole is visible and it can collapse at any time, if there is no urgency to attend to the weakened high mast,” said a resident, Sameer Naik.
“We had tried to highlight the condition of this high mast to the electricity department, but no one seems to pay any attention,” he added.
A passerby, who noticed the condition of the high mast, said, “The high mast is in a precarious position due to its corroded base. Authorities should act before any tragedy takes place.”
Incidentally, the high mast lamp post has been used by cable TV and private internet service providers to tie various cables, posing further danger to the already weakened post.
