Goan Football Club made use of their chances, at least some them, while Guardian Angel Sports Club, Curchorem had one of their off days as they missed every opportunity that came their way in their Goa Professional League match at Rosary ground, Navelim on Tuesday. The young Gaurs won the match 3-0 after a goalless first half.

In a tightly contested game, both teams tested each other. It was Guardian Angel who initiated the first attack and striker Sunny Fernandes’ try sailed over the crossbar from close range. It wasn’t long before Goan FC got their chance but failed to score in the 15th minute when striker Liston Colaco’s rasping shot went wide.

Although Goan FC kept knocking at the back of the rival defence they couldn’t find an opening. When they thought they had finally gone in front in the 38th minute, Meldon Silva’s goal was disallowed by referee Mario Valles for a foul on a Curchorem defender. Earlier, Guardian Angel muffed a sitter with only rival goalkeeper Shubham Das to beat.

Goan FC again faltered in front of the goal in the 40th minute when Lalthmagaihsanga failed to beat rival goalkeeper, off a Nester Dias flag kick. At the stroke of half time, Guardian Angel had a golden opportunity to go in front but Micky Vaz failed to beat the rival goalkeeper.

After the break, Goan FC put up a vastly improved display with captain Kingslee Fernandes playing a pivotal role in the waist line as he kept his forwards busy with a steady stream of passes. Goan FC nearly broke the deadlock soon after resumption when wing back Saviour Gama fed Kapil Hople on the right flank and the last named essayed a fine through pass to striker Liston Colaco, who faltered in front of the goal.

In the 56th minute, Goan FC almost conceded a goal when defender Lalhmanghaanga miscued a shot and the ball travelled to Allwyn Vaz. However Goan FC goalkeeper Shubham Das fisted away the shot. Goan FC got two more opportunities in the second half; first midfielder Kingslee Fernandes’ well executed free kick missed the target, while Meldon Silva’s header also was off the mark.

Goan FC’s first goal came in the 78th minute when striker substitute Aaren Silva headed home off a cross from Liston Colaco. Gaurdian Angel then made a dangerous move but Allwyn Vaz’s snap shot was well blocked by the rival goalkeeper. In the 85th minute, Liston Colaco doubled the lead when he beat the goalkeeper Ozen Silva, off an assist from Aarren Silva.

Down 0-2, Guardian Angel failed to put in a loose ball into the goal with rival defenders caught off guard. Substitute Imran Khan made it 3-0, slotting past goalkeeper Ozen Silva in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
