Popular Goan short story book in English, Konkani and Portuguese, Espi Mai stuck again is coming out with its Marathi edition soon
A new book of short stories from Goa in Marathi will be released this week at Alto Porvorim. It is titled ‘Espi Mai parat adakli, ani govyatil itar katha’ and is authored by Anita Pinto.
So far, it has been published in English (Espi Mai is Stuck Again... and Other Goan Tales), Konkani (Espi May Porot Xirkoli) and Portuguese (Espi Mai Esta Presa Outra Vez), the book is now being launched in a Marathi edition. It has been translated by prof Jeevan Khedekar, chief coordinator of DMC College of Management Assagaon.
The book tells charming stories set in various parts of Goa, among different communities, religions, regions and language groups. Its lead story is about a lady who is visiting from Mumbai, and get’s stuck in a rickshaw. How her young friends help her to get out of this dilemma is a charming part of the story. Like all of Pinto’s stories, each has a moral and attempts to teach values to young children, while at the same time being fun to read and not preachy.
This is Mapusa-based Pinto’s fourth book. She has done a book of poems, called Mother Mary Poems, Anita Pinto is a writer for children, lecturer and voice trainer. She first wrote Espi Mai in English in the year 2011. She is the proprietor of Anita Pinto Institute where she conducts progressive workshops in Voice Culture to professionals in Goa and Mumbai
Her earlier well-received book of stories for children was called Tales from Golden Goa. She has published two books on Elocution Pieces for Students and co-authored a series of Value Education Books by Orient Longman.
The book release will be held on November 16th 2018 at 5.30 pm at Alto Porvorim’s Xavier Centre for Historical Research. Art Gallery, BB Borkar Road, Porvorim.
The book will be released by children Rahul Shetye, Ekash Jadhav, Anaaya Karmali, Kierah de Belchior, Zarah Shaikh , Sonal Korgaonkar and Aloysius Rodrigues. During the release, there will be a reading by Miss Niyarika Tendulkar.
Proceeds of the sale of Marathi books will be given to children suffering from cancer. The book has been supported by crowd-funding from friends and family.
Pinto says: “Transporting children into the story helps fire their imagination, think out of the box and makes them independent. Every child has the right to dream and I love urging them to dream”
