Revenue Minister, Rohan Khaunte on Wednesday slammed the PWD minister and the officials for failing to manage proper supply of water and provide a very basic necessity to the people of Provorim.

“For the last eight days we have been having issues with water supply. There has to be some seriousness from the department and the concerned minister to ensure that these things are looked at on priority. If basic infrastructure like this is an issue, it is a little embarrassing,” Khaunte, who appeared visibly annoyed, said.

The revenue minister said that PWD was not able to meet the water requirements of Porvorim for the last couple of months.

“This is not acceptable at all. People are not getting a drop of water and there is no contingency or support system in place,” he said.

Khaunte further said that the water supply crisis had become a matter of routine whenever there was a breakdown in the pipeline or an electrical problem.

He said engineers needed to be competent to balance and ensure that water pumping was taking place uniformly to all constituencies.

“But that is not happening. We had a meeting with the PWD minister and explained to him. He promises extra mld. And then nothing happens…,” he said.

He also said that somebody in the department has to be held responsible if instructions are not followed.

“Responsibilities need to be fixed on the engineers if they are not able to perform. We are trying our best to see that our people get good supply. But water running dry and there is nobody holding responsibility. This is shameful. This is too much now,” he said.
