The People Front of Navelim has sent a warning to the Goa Housing Board not to take up any more housing projects in the Rumdamol Housing Board area.

Addressing the media, Chairman of the front Vishwadas Naik told the media that the Goa Housing Board should instead provide basis amenities including play ground for children, gymnasium, library, sports complex and place for garbage disposal.

“Slowly, the Rumdamol Housing Board is being turned into Bihar as migrants from other states are staying in our village. People are already preoccupied with the problem of garbage and sewerage,” Naik told the media.

Referring to the recent auction conducted by the Goa Housing Board to allot the 72 flats, each admeasuring 47 square meters, Naik said the auction has not benefited the poor people in any way.

“This is one reason why the front has decided to oppose construction of the proposed 370 flats by the Housing Board in Rumdamol. Instead of constructing flats, the Board should make plots and allot these to the poor people,” he demanded.

Replying to a query, he said the Rumdamol gram sabha had in the past opposed Housing Board’s plan to build 370 flats in the area, adding “the front will stop any new housing projects.”

He said that MLAs who are interested in housing projects should take these in their constituencies.

Meanwhile, front general secretary Bobby Mathur demanded the arrest of the fish mafia saying the investigating authorities should conduct a lie detector test on the fish agents to get to the truth of the issue. “There are rumours that fish mafias are paying money to get conditions favourable in the wake of the formalin issue and paying lakhs of rupees to get support from political figures,” he added.
