All eyes are focused on the office of the Director General of Police, Muktesh Chander, as the district police chief, south, SP Arvind Gawas has submitted the inquiry report conducted by DySP Raju Raut Desai into the assault incident at the Nehru stadium on November 8.

The probe was completed in the wee hours of Wednesday. SP Gawas told The Goan that since the inquiry was ordered by the DGP, the report has been forwarded to his office on Wednesday. He declined to throw light on the contents of the report.

Sources in the know said the inquiry officer, DySP Raju Raut had recorded the statements of the Anjuna-based D’Souza family, including Seby and Tina, besides the policemen and the supervisory officer, who have all come under the scanner of the football fans after the ugly incident at the Nehru stadium.

While the job of recording the statements of the policemen was completed late Tuesday night, the police worked overtime till the wee hours of Wednesday to compile the report and submit the same to the SP’s office.

The DGP had ordered the probe into the assault incident following outcry across the State and the social media condemning the men in uniform for the brutal attack on the football fans, Lester and his mother Tina D’Souza.

The demand for action against the policemen had only grown louder as the Fatorda police were quick to register an FIR against Lester, Seby and Tina on late November 8 itself and even arresting Seby and Tina at the dead of night, but were found dragging their feet in registering an FIR against PSIs Dattaprasad Toraskar and

Raunak Kadam, who were named as the assaulters by the complainant.
