Vasco Sports Club came from behind to hold Corps of Signals 1-1 in a GFA Professional League match at Signals ground, Navelim on Wednesday.

Signals made a good impression in the opening few minutes as midfielder T.C Lathuapzua and Aaron Alvares created chances for the strikers and tested the Vasco goalkeeper Sanju Thapa with well-measured sorties.

Signals nearly broke the deadlock in the 10th minute when midfielder Lalrellakatan Singh unleashed a snap-shot, which however deflected off rival goalkeeper’s hands for a flag kick.Couple of minutes later, Signals had a golden chance to surge ahead but midfielder Lairellakatam’s Singh feeble push went straight into the hands of Vasco goalkeeper.

Vasco’s  attacking midfielder Schubert Pereira saw his blistering shot taken care by Corps of Signals goalkeeper Binu Purshothama.

Signals’ breakthrough came in the 20th minute when Kuldeep Singh floated the ball from the left and midfielder Lairellaklam Singh connected in style with a smart header to leave the rival goalkeeper dazed. However their joy was short-lived as 10 minutes later, midfielder Inacio Cardozo tapped the ball home from a goal-mouth melee after Schubert Pereira’s snap-shot.

Post resumption, Vasco Sports Club came back strong with their midfielders and forwards working in tandem to put the rival defenders under pressure. However, Corps of Signals were unlucky in the 56th minute when Lairellaklam Singh’s goal-bound shot was saved on goalline by the Vasco Sports Club defender Myron Pereira.

After that scare,Vasco Sports club grew in confidence and launched a barrage of attacks and Shubham Dessai’s cracker was well saved by the rival goalkeeepr with great difficulty.
