Churchill Brothers hammered FC Bardez 6-1 in the sixth round match of Goa Professional League, organized by GFA, played at Duler stadium, here on Tuesday.

After the win, Churchill Brothers have 11 points from five matches, while FC Bardez stay on three points from six matches. The goal-filled match saw seven goals being scored and the sending off of two Churchill Brothers players, Nickson Castanha and Sonam Bhutia.

Churchill Brothers coach Norbert Gonsalves started with Vinil C Poojary, Gilbert Oliveira and U-20 player Cyrus Noronha in the midfield, while at the other end, FC Bardez in-charge Savio D’Souza fielded Luis Miranda and Holiston Marak. It was one of the easiest outings for the I- League team as Churchill Brothers went into the breather with a four-goal cushion.

At the breather, FC Bardez management felicitated the President, Vice President and all the Bardez executive committee members on being elected in the recent Goa Football Association elections.

The Red Machines opened their account in the very 3rd minute with striker Uttam Rai guiding the ball into the goal, off a long floater by Vinil Poojary, 1-0. In the 9th minute, Bardez keeper Urgen Pinto brought off a diving save to stop Lenny Pereira’s 25-yard free kick.

The Red Machines continued their domination and made repeated raids on the rival citadel and pumped in three more goals. In the 29th minute, Gilbert Oliveira sent a square pass inside the penalty box to Vinil Poojary who superbly curled his shot into the far corner of the Bardez goal, 2-0.

In the closing stages of the first session, the Red Machine hammered in two more quick goals as U-20 player Cyrus Noronha dribbled past a host of rival defenders and the keeper to score the third goal. Uttam Rai netted his brace in the added-on time as he nodded the ball into the goal off a cross by Vinil, 4-0.

On resumption of play, Nickson Castanha -- who came from the bench -- added his name to the scorers list as his well-executed 30-yard free kick sneaked past the Bardez defensive wall, 5-0. After much probing, the Red Machines made it 6-0 when a goal-bound shot taken by Gilbert Oliveira hit the legs of his team-mate Nickson Castanha before landing into the goal.

In the 83rd minute, Bardez brought some smile on the faces of their supporters as Cho Lepcha scored from the penalty spot to make it 6-1. Ong Lepcha’s shot at the unguarded goal saw Nickson fist the ball over the post prompting referee Tejas Nagvenkar to point to the penalty spot and send off Nickson with a red card. In the added-on time, Churchill’s Sonam Bhutia was also sent off by the referee for his second bookable offence.
