Asserting that the police have no right to assault fans, Goa Football Association (GFA) chief and Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao has demanded the immediate suspension of the two police sub-inspectors, Dattaprasad Toraskar and Raunak Kadam, and initiate a probe into the incident.
Churchill warned that the people of Goa will take suitable action, which he did not specify, if the Goa police fail to act against the two PSIs.
Churchill told the media on Tuesday that he has already spoken to Director General of Police, Muktesh Chander, demanding stern action against the erring policemen, including suspension of the two PSIs.
“The police have no right to assault fans coming to the stadium to watch matches. The police should know that the police department is being paid crores of rupees by F C Goa for the security. They just cannot go on assaulting football fans,” he said.
Blaming the police for the incident, Churchill said the video footage shows that Lester must have retaliated only after the police officers first assaulted his mother Tina. “The police are to be blamed for the incident,” he reiterated.
While reiterating that the people of Goa will take appropriate action in the matter, he, however, said the plan of action will be unveiled at the right time.
