Union Ayush Minister Shripad Naik on Tuesday stated that 80 per cent of jobs at the proposed All India Institute of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy in Dhargal would be reserved for Goan youth.  

“Land losers will get first preference in jobs, while jobs will be reserved for youth of Pernem taluka. If skilled persons are not available, we will look outside the State,” said Naik.  

The union minister was addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone for the All India Institute of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy in the presence of Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar.  

Stating that the project was in the pipeline since the last two years, Naik said the institute will be at par with AIIMS Ayurveda and will have a research centre, 100-bedded hospital and would offer post-graduation and Phd courses.  

He also informed that Rs 300 crore would be spent in the first phase of the project.  

“Under the AYUSH mission, a 50-bedded hospital will be also set up in Margao and Sakhali soon,” said Naik.  

Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar lauded the union minister for his efforts to set up the institute and said it would help achieve progress and development in Pernem taluka.  

Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar said the project would help generate employment and first preference would be given to people of Pernem taluka.  

Stating that the project would help attract medical tourism in Goa, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said ayurveda and homeopathy are used as alternative treatments all over the world and many tourists from across the world travel to various places in India like Kerala and Bangalore to get ayurvedic treatment.  

Goa Tourism and Development Corporation Chairman Dayanand Sopte also spoke on the occasion.  

Others present at the function included Chief Secretary Dharmendra Sharma, Secretary at Ministry of Ayush Rajesh Kotecha, Director of Health Services Sanjay Dalvi, Joint Secretary at Ministry of AYUSH P N Ranjit Kumar, GMC Medical Superintendent Dr Shivanand Bandekar, PMC Chairperson Suvidha Teli, councillors ZP members and panch members of Pernem taluka.  

Dr Dayanand Rao compered the function, while Prof Tanuja Nesari, Director at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in New Delhi later proposed the vote of thanks.
