Making Goa a start-up hub! Global investors coming

PONDA: Union Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu on Sunday unveiled plans to invite global investors for a meeting in Goa in December to help finance the start-up community in the State. The minister said that the Centre was mulling to make Goa a start-up hub in an effort to create jobs and also help push the economy of the country.
Prabhu was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the ‘green’ building centre at Kudaim Industrial Estate of the ACC Cement company in partnership with Goa’s ALCON group. Minister for PWD Sudin Dhavalikar, chairman of ALCON Anil Counto, Managing Director of ACC Neeraj Akhoury and others were present on the occasion.
Prabhu said the meeting of global investors, financers and others will be held on December 7, wherein all points in regards to setup of start-up community will be discussed. “By this means we can create jobs and also help to push economy.”
As finance is one of the problems faced by start-ups, the Union minister said there was a need to bring all concerned on one platform. “To sort out this problem we will convene a meeting on December 7 and it will be an annual event," he said.
He also said that Goa could become start-up and logistics hub to create more jobs. “With new schemes we can promote agricultural export from Goa. This will help farmers to increase their income,” he said.
He also commended the efforts of ACC Cement company and Goa’s ALCON group for ‘green building center’. “I am optimistic that state will become a new hub of such green ideas and will help environment,” he said.
Speaking about green buildings, Suresh Prabhu said India is a country where much of infrastructure is yet to be constructed. “This concept will help for further construction.”
“We have to make logistics hub a reality in Goa as the State has all the infrastructure required for the facility," he said.
Sudin Dhavalikar also spoke in praise of ACC and Alcon and said that such initiative by them would help in getting rid of construction debris. “If we can reuse these debris it will help us and the environment,” he said.
