Burglars broke into four offices, including three shipping offices, at Karma Heights building in Vasco and decamped with cash of about Rs 1.05 lakh. This is the third burglary reported in Vasco within three months.

According to information, the burglary took place in the wee hours of Friday and the incident came to light only after some staff arrived in the morning and opened the office.

Sources said three shipping related offices, SNS logistics, Wilhelmsen Ship Services and Inchcape shipping services, were the targets of the burglar in the Karma Heights building.

Sources said the burglars entered by breaking open the grills and door locks of the offices.  Sources also informed that there were laptops and other gadgets present in the office but the burglars did not touch the gadgets and only fled with cash.

While cash of Rs 75,000 were stolen from SNS logistics, cash of Rs 30,000 was stolen from the office of Wilhelmsen Ship Services office. However, it was unclear if cash was stolen from Inchcape shipping services and another office.

Sources claimed the burglary could be the handiwork of someone familiar with the building, as one office which had the CCTV camera outside its main door was turned to a different direction when the burglary took place at about 4.20 am on Friday.

“Though CCTV visuals showed only one man entering the building at around 4.20 am, there could be more people involved in the crime,” the

source said.

Speaking to reporters, Omkar Tendulkar of SNS logistics said when he reached the office, the doors were open and cupboards ransacked and he called his owner, who in turn, alerted the police.

“The cupboards were ransacked and cash of Rs 75,000 is missing. They have also gained access to other offices by cutting grills. However, laptops and other equipment have not been taken away,” said

Tendulkar.

Branch Manager of Wilhelmsen Ship Services, Umesh Nayak, said the cash box was open and kept on the table when the staff arrived to open the office.

“The windows were open and the cash box was lying on the table. Cash of about Rs 35,000, including office and my personal cash, has been stolen,” said Nayak.

A Vasco police team conducted investigations at the site and the police is believed to have zeroed down on a possible suspect in the case.

The burglaries in the heart of the city have caused alarm among other offices and establishments along the road.

On July 17, burglars had decamped with mobiles and accessories worth around Rs 30 lakh from a Samsung Zone shop opposite the Karma Heights building. Later on September 21, burglars had broken into 3 offices in Rohan Arcade building and fled with cash worth Rs 3.57 lakh.
