Minister for Art and Culture Govind Gaude on Monday said consistent follow-ups were necessary to ensure the success of development projects.

Gaude was speaking after unveiling the foundation stone for Ponda taluka’s first-ever Sanskrutik Bhavan, multi-facility community centre, at Kalmamall-Borim.

Shiroda MLA Subhash Shirodkar, Borim Sarpanch Bhavana Naik, Zilla Panchayat member Deepak Naik Borkar, Borim Deputy Sarpanch Constancio Luis, Director of Department of Tribal Welfare Venancio Furtado and other panch members were present on the occasion.

The Sanskrutik Bhavan, which will house a hall with sitting capacity of 700 people, a conference room, store room and an office, will be built on 270 square metres of total 6500 square meters area acquired for this project. Work will be undertaken under the Department of Tribal Welfare and financed by Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC).

“There should be consistency in getting works done and Borim panchayat has done it by persistently following-up on this project,” said Gaude.

“This will be the first Sanskrutik Bhavan in Ponda taluka. Though the maintenance will be done by the panchayat, it will be the responsibility of the public to take care of this project,” Gaude said.

He said that the panchayat will be given nominal fund to maintain this project. “We will only take up projects requested by the public and will not impose our plans on them,” assured the minister.

Gaude also stressed on cleanliness on the campus, and said spice trees and other trees will be planted. “People must use and maintain the community centre like their own house. We must keep it clean. We must come together, co-ordinate and co-operate with each other to keep the sanctity of the place alive,” the minister said.

Subhash Shirodkar in his speech stressed on cleanliness. Appreciating the Borim panchayat for its efforts to get the community centre, Shirodkar said, “Borim is a small village, yet, it has made commendable progress in past few years. Let us all come together for a better future.”
