Anurag Mhamal, Ameya Audi and Bhakti Kulkarni continued their fine run in the Goa Chess Association’s 1st Goa International Open Grandmaster Chess Tournament at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, Taleigao Plateau on Sunday.
Taking maximum advantage of the home comfort, Grandmasters Anurag Mhamal and FIDE Master Ameya Audi collected full points at the end of round two in the Cateogry A while Woman Grandmaster Bhakti Kulkari found her winning ways back.
Anurag, Goa’s first GM, beat WFM Cholleti Sahajasri while Ameya beat Sahil Dye to take his points tally to two and to remain on top.
Following a slow start, Woman Grandmaster Bhakti Kulkarni came back strongly in Round 2 as she got the better of Andra Pradesh’s Akshita Kumar. Bhakti is now on 1.5 points.
On top boards, Kravtsiv Martyn, Amonatov Farrukh, Predke Alexandr, Popov Ivan, Idani Pouya, M Vadim T Samuel continued to show their dominance as they beat their respective opponents to grab maximum points.
Amongst other Goans, FM Nitish Belurkar, Reuban Colaco, Nanshini Saripalli also earned their first point beating Varsha Ramesh, WFM Bidhur Rutumbara and Sathya Narayan S respectively.
Meawhile, Devesh Anand Naik put up a strong fight against Woman International Master Parnali Dharia to earn a draw. Ritviz Parab beat Wilson Cruz.
In Category B, Parsekar Anirudh is with 4 points while Tanad Anil Bandodkar and Anirudh Bhat are on 3.5 points at the end of Round 5. Parsekar Anirudh beat Maskepatil Kaustabh while Anirudh Bhat beat Lad M Pradip and Tanad was held by Abhineesh S.
Amongst other Goans, Ramdas Sawant, Manoj Yash, Shekar Sirsat, Swayam Naik, Jugan Sales Rodrigues, Lad Pradip, Sairaj Dilip Vernekar, Sharath Shanbhag,
ACM Srilaxmi Kamat and Ashmita A Ray are on three points.
