MARGAO

Host Holy Spirit Parishioners, Margao downed Goa Diocesan Priests 4-2 in an exhibition match organised by Holy Spirit Parish Youth to promote and foster priestly vocation in the parish at Church Ground, Margao on Sunday.

Holy Spirit Parishioners dominated the game and broke the deadlock as early as in the seventh minute when Jovito Rodrigues beat the rival goalkeeper, Fr Rosario Oliveira with a neat placement. However their joy was short lived when Fr Domnic Savio Rodrigues punted the ball to the far corner of the net off an assist from Fr Leo Fernandes. Stunned by the equalizer, Holy Spirit Parishioners went into an attacking mode. Their efforts bore fruition, when Kishen Borkar slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snapshot.

After changing ends, Vincent Barbosa and Frank Barbosa scored in quick succession to inflate Holy Spirit’s lead to 4-1. Thereafter Fr Jayson, Fr, Benny and Fr Dylan raided Holy Spirit citadel to claw their way back into the game. But Johnny Crasto and Miguel Barretto stood obdurate in the Holy Spirit defence. With time running out, Fr. Leo Fernandes scored a brace to reduce the margin to 2-4 in the outcome.

FC Goa Development coach and former international midfielder, Clifford Miranda was the chief guest and Fr Savio Pinto was the Guest of Honour. Holy Spirit Parish Priest Fr Avinash Rebello, Holy Spirit Youth Animator Fr Domnic Savio Rodrigues, Fr Francis De Melo, Sr Reina, Sr Gertrude and catechist Peter were also present.
