Goa face Kerala footballers in legendary tie for charity

Arjuna awardees Brahmanand Shankhwalkar and Bruno Coutinho will step out together to face the likes of I M Vijayan in no run-of-the-mill Goa vs Kerala veterans football match, but this time the cause is much more humanitarian than the duel being just another game.  

The John Paul II Foundation for Sports Goa in association with Goa Football Association, are aiming to raise funds for the rehabilitation of young children of flood victims in Kerala especially in the Wayanad, Mallapuram and Idduki districts, pitting the Goa Legends against Kerala Legends XI at GFA’s Duler Stadium on Saturday 

at 6.30 pm.  

Former India goalkeeper and captain Brahmanand Shankhwalkar will lead Goa while Bruno Coutinho will be vice-captain. I M Vijayan will be the captain of the Kerala team.

The match-day tickets are available at Angley’s Sports, Panaji, and GFA stadium-Duler, priced at Rs 200 and Rs 100. “The foundation along with GFA, are expecting support and appeals to all the football-loving people from Goa to be a part of the match with an important cause,” said the organisers at the press conference here on Tuesday.  

Meanwhile, Kennedy D’Silva, Director of the John Paul II Foundation for Sports, also announced that sports equipments/apparel can also be donated for the 


“The foundation is also planning to collect sports kit and equipments from all those who have used or new jerseys, shorts, stockings, shin guards, football shoes and track shoes,” announced D’Silva.
