PMJAY rolled out in Goa, over 36,000 families to benefit

Governor of Goa Mridula Sinha launched the government-funded world's largest health insurance scheme in Goa on Sunday.
The Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) was launched at Dr. S. Z. Quasim Auditorium, NIO, Dona Paula in the presence of Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, PWD Minister Sudin Dhavlikar, TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai, South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar and others.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Sinha thanked Prime minister Narendra Modi for this scheme and said the PM is trying to make all of India long-lived ‘ayushman’ with this scheme. "This scheme will enable the poor and needy to secure their health," she said.
The Governor also said that the people who deal with this scheme have to endeavor to reach the scheme to needy people to fulfill its noble objective and appealed to the people to avail the benefit of the scheme to live a healthy life
Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane said that the unique scheme will be integrated with Goa state Deen Dayal Swasthya Suraksha Yojna which is already giving health insurance cover to the people of Goa.
He said that with transforming health care in the country this scheme will help the state government continue the mission of saving life. "The Ayushman Bharat PMJAY scheme of the central government ensures health cover of Rs. 5 lakh to the beneficiary and will help save the lives of many people and prove to be a boon to the weaker section of society," he added.
PWD Minister Sudin Dhavlikar said that the scheme launched on an auspicious day like Anant Chaturdashi will be certainly successful and help increase the life expectancy of people of the country. "This scheme is a step toward providing better health facilities," he said adding that no nation can make progress without good health.
MP Narendra Sawaikar said that this scheme is a part of PM Narendra Modi’s transformation mission which is going on for last 4 years. "Like Jan Dhan Yojana and all other schemes which are started by PM, this scheme will also benefit poor people. Under this scheme around 10.74 crore population will be covered with a life cover of Rs 5lakh."
Vijay Sardesai said that government is focusing on giving good quality healthcare services to the people. "In GMC, we provide super specialty facilities to people," he said.
"The central government has a vision to provide affordable health services to the common man in the country. More than half of the population of our country is young and our PM intends to utilize their talent and energy for the prosperity and strength of the nation," informed Sardesai.
Health secretary J. Ashok Kumar informed at the function that 36,500 families from Goa will get the benefit of the PMJAY. All over India 10.74 crore families i.e around 15 crore people will get the benefit of this scheme. Persons insured under this scheme will get a health insurance cover over 5 lakhs which cover 1,350 procedures. This scheme will work under 60:40 share of center and state government.
The Governor and other dignitaries distributed Golden Cards of Ayushman Bharat PMJAY scheme to 18 beneficiaries registered under the scheme.
The launch programme was followed by a live screening of Prime minister Narendra Modi inaugurating this nationwide scheme at Jharkhand.
Chief Secretary Dharmendra Sharma, Dean of Goa Medical College Dr.Pradeep Naik, Staff of Health Department, GMC and others attended the function.
