In the ongoing war of words in the Nationalist Congress Party camp, party Goa unit President Jose Philip D’Souza on Friday sent a message loud and clear that party Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao is not his high command, asserting that his high command is party supremo Sharad Pawar.
He also pooh poohed the demand made by Churchill Alemao to submit a letter to the Governor opposing dissolution of the Goa Legislative Assembly, questioning the rationale behind Churchill’s demand when no one has talked about going for election.
“Is Churchill Alemao my high command?”, Jose Philip countered when the media sought his comments on Churchill’s allegation that he did not accept his demand to submit a letter to the governor opposing any move to dissolve the Assembly.
Jose Philip continued by asserting that his high command is none other than NCP supremo Sharad Pawar, adding ‘If Sharad Pawar tells him to do certain things, he would do so’.
Demanding to know why the NCP should give a letter to the governor on the question of dissolution of the Assembly, Jose Philip said, “What is the reason for the Party to give a letter to the governor. Has anyone announced that we are going for election? When no one has said anything, why should we give a letter to the governor.”
When questioned whether dissolution is an answer to the problems faced by the common man for want of any government, Jose Philip replied in the negative, but hastened to add that Goans are craving for a government that will work and address the grievances of the people.
Demanding to know what are the 40 MLAs doing when the government has not been functioning, the NCP Goa unit president said the common man has been the worst hit. “We also don’t want an election. But, we are asking for dissolution because the government is not functioning. If the MLAs are opposed to the dissolution, let them work for the people and the betterment of the State,” he said.
Jose Philip further sent a message to the party leaders and workers alike that the party is guided by certain norms, adding that everyone who is a party member should adhere to the laid down guidelines. “Every one should know that the party has a president and the president ought to be respected. It is the duty of the leaders as well as the workers to respect the party president. What can we do if someone does not want to respect the party president,” Jose Philip asked, while saying that he does not want to say that Churchill does not respect the party president.
“Churchill may have had some reasons when he asked me to send a letter to the governor to oppose dissolution of the Assembly. But, he should also know that the party has a high command, who has to take certain decisions which are beyond the domain of the local unit,” he added.
