A KTC passenger bus broke down along the highway near Siridao on Friday evening, causing a massive traffic jam as several hundreds of motorists and commuters struggled to proceed along the highway.
Huge queues of vehicles were seen even though traffic and police officials did their best to control traffic and release vehicles at regular intervals from each side of the road.
At one time, traffic movement almost came to a standstill and frustrated passengers abandoned various KTC buses stranded in the queues and were seen walking by the roadside in the hope of reaching home early.
According to Agassaim Police Inspector Uday Gaude, a KTC passenger bus broke down and had caused the traffic Jam. “The KTC bus moving from Panjim towards Margao broke down at a narrow road along the bypass near the petrol pump. The bus could not be started no matter how hard the staff tried.”
“As the bus was on the road, there was a traffic jam as many vehicles tried to cross over, causing a further blockade. We had to get a crane to move the bus to the side and the road got cleared some time later,” said PI Gaude.
