Of cleanliness and hygiene

Students of Institute of Hotel Management and officials of India Tourism, Goa Tourism and IHM undertook a massive outreach programme in Mapusa for the general public, street vendors and tourists as part of the Paryatan Parv celebrations. The programme titled ‘Hygiene Awareness among tourists, street food vendors, shopkeepers’, was conducted at the Mapusa Bus stand. Students of IHM enthusiastically presented information and imparted knowledge on the need for cleanliness and hygiene especially among street food vendors and eateries. Earlier IHM students sensitised the bus operators and school children in Panaji on cleanliness. Tourism department officials also took part in highlighting the importance of good behaviour with the tourists. Cleanliness drive was carried out at Fort Aguada along with the officials of the organising departments. On Friday, September 21, a programme on Sensitization in the Neighbourhood about Atithi Devo Bhava will be conducted from 5-6pm for food vendors at Miramar beach.

When words get wings

Novi Dixa’ a collection of poems in Roman Konkanni Script by Edvin Fernandes was released at a function organised by Dalgado Konknni Academy. Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Fr Vital Miranda, parish priest of Guardian Angel Church said, “ You become what your company is. Similarly, what you say or write gets into the minds of people. Therefore,  you need to speak, write and think good and people will remember you.” The function was held at Shri Santeri Temple Community hall, Xelvona, Curchorem. Panch member of Xelvona Panchayat, Manoj Nik, DKA president, Tomazinho Cardozo, secretary, Vincy Quadros and the writer, Edvin Fernandes shared the dais with the chief guest. Both Manoj Naik and Tomazinho Cardozo shared their opinion and expressed happiness that Edvin writes in Konkani and requested him to serve the Konkani literary world with zeal and passion for many years.
‘Novi Dixa’ a collection of 84 poems was released under the DKA ‘Kombri’ scheme, instituted to encourage young and upcoming Konkani writers. Edvin Fernandes dedicated his book to his late mother, Minguelina Fernandes. Edvin thanked all those who helped him in bringing this book to light and expressed happiness that the release ceremony was held in his Xelvona village. 
 The ceremony commenced with a short entertainment programme. Anslon D’Costa, Vanessa Mascarenhas, Duella Fernandes, Ashlon Mascarenhas, Asinya Mascarenhas, Clara Pereira and Ajosie Rodrigues took part in the programme. Mathew D’Costa, compered the event and Vincy Quadros proposed the vote of thanks.
