MARGAO
Congress MLAs and leaders were anxiously awaiting the arrival of AICC general secretary in-charge of Goa desk, Dr Chella Kumar late Wednesday night as he is expected in Goa with the message from Congress President Rahul Gandhi in the wake of the political developments unfolding in the state over the last few days.
Dr Chella Kumar is scheduled to go into a huddle with Congress MLAs and leaders and brief them on his meeting with the Congress President.
When The Goan contacted Dr Chella Kumar to shed light on his meeting with Rahul Gandhi, the Goa desk in-charge did not deny his meeting, saying he has briefed the Congress president on the current political situation in Goa. “I have met our party president Rahul Gandhi and briefed him in detail on the current political situation in the state. Definitely, my meeting with my Congress president was concerning politics and the unfolding developments in Goa,” Dr Chella told The Goan.
Dr Chella, who was in Goa when the Party MLAs had called on the Governor with a request to call the Congress party to form an alternate government, air dashed to Delhi to brief Rahul Gandhi on the political scenario and is returning back to the state, apparently with a message from the Congress president. “I cannot divulge what has transpired during talks with Rahul Gandhi. It is all about strategy. I am returning back to Goa late tonight and will meeting party leaders and MLAs on Thursday morning,” he added.
Party MLAs and leaders are keenly awaiting Dr Chella’s visit to the state, more so after his meeting with Congress President Rahul Gandhi.
Around 14-15 Congress MLAs had called on the Govenor on Tuesday with a plea to convene a special session of the Goa Legislative Assembly to allow the party to prove its majority on the floor of the House. The Congress delegation had also strongly opposed any moves to dissolve the Legislative Assembly before the expiry of the five year term.
