ICG and Goa University are holding the third edition of Ideas Unleashed: ICG - Goa University Essay Competition 2018 on the topic ‘Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): The challenges for Goa’. Ideas Unleashed 2018 is supported by Mr Dattaraj Salgaocar, Chairman of V.M. Salgaocar Institute of International Hospitality Education and Vice President of the Board of Trustees of ICG. Due to the excellent response in previous editions of Ideas Unleashed, the organizers have decided to hold the competition in both English and Konkani languages.
The essay competition is open to students currently enrolled with Goa University and colleges affiliated to Goa University, the Goa Institute of Management (GIM), Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS)-Goa, the National Institute of Technology (NIT)-Goa, and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Goa, up to the age of 25 years. The last date for submission of essays is 25th October 2018.
The top three essays will receive cash prizes as follows: First Rs. 25,000 (Rs. twenty-five thousand), Second Rs. 20,000 (Rs. twenty thousand) and Third Rs. 15,000 (Rs. fifteen thousand). In the Konkani category, there is a cash prize of Rs. 25,000 (Rupees twenty-five thousand) for the best submission.
Students from across Goa are invited to discuss and debate on the challenge of SDGs as they apply to Goa. While Goa is among the leaders among Indian states on a range of social indicators which are part of the SDGs, What can the state and its people do to achieve one or more of the SDGs? Which of the SDGs are more relevant to Goa? Which are those SDGs on which greater progress has been made? These and others are among the issues that students may engage within their essays.
