FIR against Michael Lobo for assault, issuing threat

Deputy Speaker and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has been booked on charges of assaulting and threatening the nephew of former Calangute sarpanch on Wednesday evening, a charge denied by the legislator.   

Police also booked the complainant based on the complaint filed by the Calangute MLA.   

The FIR was registered against the deputy speaker, who is a BJP legislator, at the Calangute Police Station on the written complaint of Kevin D’Souza of Naika-vaddo, Calangute.   

D’Souza in his complaint alleged that the MLA assaulted and threatened to kill him to express his anger, as he (D’Souza) had spoken against the PDA and ODP at the gram sabha and also because he was the nephew of former sarpanch, Joseph Sequeira.   

The incident happened at around noon during the foundation stone laying function of the chapel at the fish market in Calangute.   

“After the blessing was over, I was standing in the fish market with the other parishioners. I was called by the MLA and was hit with blows on my face, whereby I started bleeding profusely. He even issued a threat the he would kill me,” D’Souza said in his complaint.   

D’Souza’s wife also wrote to the Superintendent of Police seeking filing of FIR against the Calangute MLA for assaulting her husband and threatening to kill him.   

The FIR has been registered against the Calangute MLA under Section 323 (causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (ii) (threatening with dire consequences) of the IPC following the complaint   

The MLA has also lodged a counter complaint and an FIR has also been lodged against the complainant, Kevin D’Souza.   

In his complaint, the MLA said that D’Souza came charging towards him and also threatened him with dire consequences.   

Police have booked D’Souza under Section 504 and 506 (II) of the IPC. Calangute Police are investigating the matter further.
